PERESEAN (STICK FIGHTING)

Peresean is one of the traditional playing which is done by two young male in the afternoon and once in a while they do it in full moon without lightning. Peresean the two fighters around one mefa length of rattan stick and square form of a shield made from cow leather some times mysticism or magic competition can be seen among the fighter to encourage big spirit to the fighter.

The Peresean always accompany by traditional  music which it’s ritme can make the spirit of the fighter come out . The unique of this playing is although the two fighter  hit each other  with rattan stick and caused a serious injured but they always respect sportivitas and fair play .

The other unique of this playing is both of the fighter has his own promoter ( pekembar ) whose capacity as shaman , beside of that there is a referee who control the time of each round . The Peresean is considered has several value of life those are :

1. The historic value is conjugation with princess Mandalika where many prince struggled to obtain princess.
2. The prestige of value  : if the fighter win many time they will be respectful in their community .
3. The social value : seeing after hard fighting with highest emotion but after finish fight they embrace each other without  any revenge.
4. The sacred value  : confine this game is also used by Sasak tribe as sacrifice to beg rain and soil fertile to the creator.
