GILI MENO
Gili Meno is a tiny island located to the northwest of Lombok, Indonesia. It is the middle Island between Gili Air and Gili Trawangan. Gili Meno is ringed by a white sandy beach that is lined with over hanging palm trees and transparent waters. There are no cars or motorbikes, and the only transport is little carts pulled by small horses.
This makes it very peaceful place, ideal for relaxation. It has population about 600 residents, mainly concentrated on the center of the island. The main income of the population comes from tourism, coconut plantations and fishing. On the West side of the island there is small shallow lake that is used for salt production on a small scale in the dry season.
Gili Meno is famous for snorkeling and scuba diving, but there are also ‘cottage’ environmental attractions for the children and adults alike, for example a large, walk through, covered Bird park with species from Asia and Australia and a baby turtle nursery that has a release program for the visitor to take part in.
The island has a small local infrastructure that includes a medical clinic and primary school. Services include shops, internet cafes, money changers and tourism offices. There is a variety of restaurants offering delicious Indonesian, western and local Sasak cuisine. Necessities like bottled water, drinks, sunscreen, etc are the same or comparable to mainland prices.
